- Vital, the €25.4bn Norwegian pension and life insurance company, has appointed Kjerstin Fyllingen as the new leader of its public sector. Ms Fyllingen joined Vital in October 2002 and was most recently its executive vice president, customer service at the division for individual clients. Ms Fyllingen takes over from Joachim Hoegh-Krohn who joins Argentum, a nationalised investment company.
- Aberdeen Property Investors Finland has appointed Elina Liimatainen as an analyst in its investment strategy team. Ms Liimatainen joins Aberdeen from Newsec. Karri Westman joins the firm from Enskilda Securities Corporate Finance to become investment advisor in Aberdeen's transaction team. Jari Pouttu, previously property manager at Aberdeen, has been appointed as asset manager for the firm’s Finnish property fund.
- KPA Pension, the Swedish €3.3bn public sector pensions company, has appointed Karin Friberg as its new deputy managing director. Ms Friberg joined KPA in 1999 and was previously its head of personnel, economy, law and administration.
- Nordea Markets has appointed Espen Marcussen as head of equities sales and research in Norway. Mr Marcussen joins the firm from Handelsbanken, where he worked as head of equities at the firm’s capital markets section for the past six years.
- Nordea Investment Management in Helsinki has appointed Leif Böckelman as the head of client servicing of its institutional investment team. Mr Böckelman joins Nordea from Gyllenberg, where he worked as a client executive covering institutional clients.
- Mercer Investment Consulting has expanded its Nordic operations with three new senior appointments. Jonas Arsjö, Niclas Sundberg and Krister Carlsson, join the firm from MPIR Investment Services.
- East Capital has hired Martin Paasi as its deputy managing director. Mr Paasi joins East Capital from Seligson & Co Fund Management in Helsinki, where he was managing director. He previously held positions at Handelsbanken and the Helsinki Stock Exchange. East Capital Asset Management has also elected Risto Silander, previously the head of the Alfred Berg Group, as a member of its board.
- Finland’s Valio pension fund, the €650m scheme covering employees of the country’s largest dairy producer, has appointed Heikki Halkilahti as its managing director. Mr Halkilahti was senior vice president, administration, of Valio Group. He succeeds Keijo Rautio who will retire in May 2006. Mr Rautio joined Valio in 1972 and became the managing director of its pension fund in 1982.
- Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM) has appointed Peter Nielsen to its Nordic institutional sales team. Prior to joining MLIM Mr Nielsen was a mergers and acquisitions specialist at law firm Bech-Bruun in Copenhagen. Mr Nielsen will work alongside Anthony Biddulph at MLIM’s London office and will manage both existing and new institutional clients in the Nordic region.
- Finland’s €5.4bn mutual pension insurance company Etera, has appointed Esko Vainionpää as director of risk management. Mr Vainionpää joined the LEL Employment Pension Fund, Etera’s predecessor, in 1976, and was most recently the firm’s director of pensions.
- CapMan, the private equity investment firm, has appointed Mats Gullbrandsson as a partner. Mr Gullbrandsson joined CapMan in 2003 and previously worked as an investment director in the firm’s buyout team in Stockholm. CapMan has also appointed Kaisa Arovaara as its deputy CFO.
