Welcome to your new look nrpn. In the three and half years since we launched our first edition, the market has changed enormously and in order to stay ahead of those transformations we thought now would be a good time to introduce a few new sections to the magazine.
Alongside our tried and tested profiles of key Nordic pension and insurance funds (pages 16-19) and analysis of country-specific first and second pillar pensions issues (pages 9-13), we have introduced three new sections: The Interview, Euro File, and The Specialist.
The Interview, which begins with a discussion with Niels-Ulrik Mousten, chief executive officer of Danske Capital and the man behind the firm’s recent restructuring process, will give us a chance to get closer to some of the region’s biggest names.
Whether those names hail from the asset management, consultant, regulatory or pension fund end of the market, we will pose the questions you would like answered and get in front of the people you would like to hear from.
The Specialist (pages 30-31) opens the floor up to the market’s many experts and, in our inaugural piece, Pimco examines the investment case for European mortgage securitisations. The firm’s head of Nordics argues that, with many pension and insurance funds in the region largely unaffected by the credit crunch compared to some of their European peers, now is the time to pick up high quality investments at knock down prices.
Euro File gives us a chance to focus on what is happening elsewhere in Europe (pages 32-33) and in our first offering we look at France. Its pension system may not be the easiest to understand and, while it may currently not be especially inviting to asset managers, we find out why – little by little – that is changing.
Alongside these three new sections, we will continue to bring you the region’s latest news as well as features on investment and country-led issues. In this edition, for example, our cover feature (pages 24-27) looks at the investment opportunities to be had in Russia while on pages 22-23 we examine what Nordic investors are doing to beat the credit crunch.
We hope you enjoy your new look magazine and I look forward to receiving any of your views or feedback at nrpn@ft.com.
