Stephen Hirsch has been appointed as deputy chief executive officer (CEO) of Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM) and will become second in command after CEO Yngve Slyngstad. Mr Hirsch has previously been chief operating officer at NBIM, which manages Norway’s Government Pension Fund – Global and the bulk of Norges Bank’s foreign exchange reserves.

He joined the bank in 1998 as senior portfolio manager in the equity team. Mr Hirsch was later appointed deputy head of equity and COO of the equity team, before taking the position as COO in March 2008.


Carnegie has reorganised its business and created three independent business areas: securities and investment banking, asset management, and private banking/Max Matthiessen.
Steinar Lundström, currently head of Carnegie Asset Management in Norway, has been appointed as new head of asset management. The firm said that the objective of the new organisation was to create a good structure for growth, while strengthening the importance of asset management as an independent business area. Anders Onarheim has been appointed head of securities and investment banking and Christoffer Folkebo head of private banking.


Danske Capital's European
equity team has added Anders Hornbak and Allan Nielsen as portfolio managers.
Mr Hornbak joins from Carnegie, where he held a position as equity analyst and was responsible for the coverage of the financial sector in Denmark. He has previously been portfolio manager at Danske Capital and equity analyst at Handelsbanken Capital Markets.

Mr Nielsen comes from Alfred Berg/ABN Amro Asset Management, where he was a senior portfolio manager. He has also previously worked at Danske Capital. The firm’s European equity team now consists of 14 portfolio managers.


The Finnish pension insurance company Varma’s deputy CEO Markku Hyvärinen has announced his retirement. Mr Hyvärinen, who has been a member of the firm’s management team since 1998, will leave at the end of August. Hannu Tarvonen, director for client services, has temporarily stepped in as deputy CEO until a replacement has been found.
